VIDEO: Football superstar surprises paraplegic fan
"On August 15, 2016 our lives changed, and they changed dramatically," remembers Lee Grant, the father of Emerson Grant from Liverpool in the United Kingdom. On that date, the now five-year-old Emerson got a diagnosis that shocked the whole family. Everything changed and nothing was the way it once was. The future was also filled with uncertainty. Emerson was paralyzed. From the chest down, the little boy could no longer move. The cause was a reoccurring Arachnoid Cyst on his spine.
It is nevertheless inspiring and moving to see the confidence and zest for life that little Emerson and his parents exude. Part of that has to do with their passion for soccer and their hometown club Liverpool FC. Trent Alexander-Arnold, a defender for Liverpool FC, did not want to miss the opportunity to visit the entire family in February. Alexander-Arnold wanted to help put a smile on Emerson's face. And he definitely succeeded in doing that.
We want to find a cure for spinal cord injury. For Emerson and for all others who have met this fate.
